https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/firefox/+bug/858466/comments/3 suggests that you have no audio in other browsers, too. Is that accurate? What Ubuntu release (e.g., 11.10) are you using? What version of Firefox (and other browsers) are you using? Do they support HTML 5? Can you give examples of sites with HTML 5 audio that you have tested and are not working? (Please feel free to mark this back from Incomplete to New after answering all these questions -- I can always mark it back Incomplete if more information is necessary.)

Since you've eliminated what was apparently an necessary condition for the problem and, in your present configuration, can no longer perform testing or furnish information necessary to make this bug report ready for a developer to work on, and there is no one else who has indicated they are affected by this particular bug, I am marking this bug Invalid. Please note that this has a specific technical meaning (see https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/Status and https://help.launchpad.net/Bugs/Statuses and http://blog.launchpad.net/general/of-bugs-and-statuses) and does not mean that this bug report was bad or shouldn't have been filed. If you wish to put back pulseaudio and work on this bug further, then please feel free to change its status back to Incomplete (if not all the requested information has been provided) or New (if you are also providing all the requested information). However, I very fully understand that you probably don't want to do so, since it would render your Ubuntu system poorly functional.

I have a fresh 11.10 installation and Flash in Firefox has no sound. All other applications work fine, e.g. playing a downloaded flv with Totem. http://camendesign.com/code/video_for_everybody/test.html has sound ok.

Please tell me what information I should provide to track down this issue.

BTW MiniTube works fine too.

@svenmeir
In addition to what you have described, do you get video but not audio with http://camendesign.com/code/video_for_everybody/test.html? (See bug 858466.) If so, then you probably have the same problem setiamon was having, and this bug (bug 874834, not bug 858466 which is actually probably more than one different bug) indeed ought to be revived.

As I have written in comment #4, HTML5 video works fine including audio.

Note that the problem shows up on my 64bit ubuntu only, my 32bit installation works fine on my netbook.

Sorry, I don't how how I missed that.

Since you tested for that at the outset, why did you reopen this bug? This bug was specifically about all audio not working in Firefox, not just Flash audio not working.

Unless you have some reason to think there is a particularly strong similarity between what you're experiencing and setiamon's problem, you should mark this bug back to Invalid and post a question (https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/firefox/+addquestion OR https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/flashplugin-nonfree) to get help with your problem. If your problem turns out to be a bug, you can then subscribe to and indicate you are affected by whatever bug applies, or, if it's a new bug, you can then report it.

Please feel free to post a link here to the question, to link the question to this bug report (using "Link existing bug..." on the question page), and to subscribe me to the question.

So it seems I'm the one to apologize. I'll look for a bug report (possibly creating one) which is more related to my problem, i.e. flash has no sound.

Thanks.

I don't want to get into an argument about who should apologize, especially since the matter is quite trivial. But I still think it's me. ;-) Reopening this bug (you did that), while probably wrong, resulted in progress on your issue (and was easily remedied). Failing to read a significant part of your comment (I did that) only delayed progress on the issue (though that was easily remedied too). Sorry about that.

Anyway, I see that you've posted in https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/flashplugin-nonfree/+question/174682 (which is a question rather than a bug report). You should instead post a new question about this. Please also see my more lengthy response there (post #19) and the links therein, as well as https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs for information about searching for and reporting bugs.
