system recognised as laptop

Asked by Louis Paul Ange Catherine

After upgrading from 11.04 to 12.04 in May, my system was recognised as Laptop instead of Desktop. When i tried to change "All Displays" it still stayed " Laptop ". After the several updates received till now, the problem still exists. Can someone help?
Below is a reply to my first querry.

Does the system have a make and model?

The name of the screens in the display settings is of no importance at all. It is just a way to allow the users of multiple screens to differenciate between them. The program tries to find out what kind of display is attached to give it a useful name. But in some case like when the manifacturer desided to use notebook hardware in your computer (that happens some times) the program just guesses wrongly. But again: the name is just a name no more. They displays could be named Alice, Bob and Charly it would make no difference.

I also see this misbehavoir in my Ubuntu Desktops, IMHO it's a bug we should report...

If you suspect a bug, you should report one.

In fact I found a bug marked as duplicated that IMHO reflects this problem (and isn't a duplicate). I'll wait to link the bug until I'll be sure I don't have to open a new one. In the meanwhile I post the link to the bug I'm currently observing
