News about Ubuntu 11.04

Asked by Margaret Mackintosh

Hi,

After trying all morning unsuccessfully to download Ubuntu11.04, I got to looking for Alternative ways to get Linux. On the Ubuntu download page there is a link to 'alternative downloads or some such'. I clicked on this and got a big list for Ubuntu11.04 and Ubuntu10.04 LTS. I choose to download 'Ubuntu11.04-desktop-torrent.i386.iso (or may be arranged different). A BitTorrent file. Anyway it was a very fast download. There was 58 out of 60 'peers' helping with the download and the speed was over 1000 kbs. So just took a short time compared to the 16 hours I did to get Ubuntu10.04 LTS. Although they had this for the LTS also. Then it was very easy to 'write to disk'. But you know what I REALLY LOVED ABOUT IT. WHEN I RESTARTED IT FROM THE DVD, IT KEPT ALL MY FILES. HOME FOLDERS AND ALL. EVEN MAIL AND CONTACTS ALTHOUGH I ADDED MOZILLA THUNDERBIRD. I had copied everything to a DVD, but turned out not to be necessary. Also I want to add I have been online all day, DID NOT FREEZE OR TURN GRAY ONCE. Whoopie.

Since you are no longer requesting assistance with this matter, please mark this question as Solved. You can do that at https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ubiquity/+question/167796. (You marked https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ubiquity/+question/167751 solved, but not this one.)

In the future, when you want to provide more information, or ask for more help, about something you've already posted a question about before, please post a reply in your original question. You should start a new question where you have a *different* problem, but when you just want to work more on, or say something about, a problem you have already posted a question, you should use the existing question. It is extremely confusing, otherwise.

Can you help with this problem?
