password lost

Asked by Don Basho

I am newby to Linux and Ubuntu and started using it month ago. As I havent install or updated any files since - today just figure out that I can not install updates as I do not know my password as Administrator. Yes, I know... I tried all names and nicknames in family, Capitalisation and such, but no success.

Is there a solution as I need a Firewall for safe browsing and a few other updates.

Thanks

hey here is a nice tutorial:
http://www.linuxforums.org/security/howto:_recover_root_password.html
When you get your new root password, you can login on an TTy and use

passwd username

to change the user password
