Trying to check for upgrades - could not run Sudo command

This the error message I got. E: dpkg was interrupted, you must manually run 'sudo dpkg --configure -a' to correct the problem.
E: _cache->open() failed, please report.

Then I opened a command window....."geoffrey@geoffrey-X58A-UD3R:~$ sudo dpkg-configure-a
[sudo] password for geoffrey:
sudo: dpkg-configure-a: command not found

Geoffrey, please open a terminal: ctrl+alt+t
Enter:
sudo dpkg --configure -a

## To avoid typos rather copy and paste into terminal window.
Please note there're two dashes before 'configure' and one before 'a'.
Please also note empty spaces inbetween.

Please post complete terminal output here.

Please also run this and post complete output, thanks.
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get upgrade

Please run via terminal:
sudo apt-get -f install

Which desktop environment are you running?
If you'd like to have Unity
https://help.ubuntu.com/11.10/ubuntu-help/index.html

install it with:
sudo apt-get install unity

which pulls in other packages.
http://packages.ubuntu.com/natty-updates/unity

sudo apt-get install ubuntu-desktop

is a metapackage which does retrieve those packages.
http://packages.ubuntu.com/natty/ubuntu-desktop

To avoid trouble on the next dist-upgrade rather disable karmic and maverick ppa in third-party tab of software-sources.

Thanks for that- and this has fixed the error messages I was getting - at least the first line. I wont get Unity though as happy with Zorin distro and paid for the ultimate version so dont want to scrap it
