You should also remove duplicates in your sources.list file (or remove the duplicated repo in software centre)

In software centre check there are no duplicates in the 'other sources' tab

You may also want to run:

gksudo gedit /etc/apt/sources.list

and ensure each line is unique

If you are running a natty system, you should only have natty lines in your sources.list.
So you could delete the 'maverick' lines, or replace maverick by natty.

Try again, open a terminal and issue the following commands:

sudo apt-key adv --recv-key --keyserver keyserver.ubuntu.com 40976EAF437D05B5
sudo apt-key adv --recv-key --keyserver keyserver.ubuntu.com 94E58C34A8670E8C
cat /etc/apt/sources.list
sudo apt-get update

And then copy all output and paste it into the Message: input box of https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/apt/+question/164828

If the two apt-key commands do not help try the following:

Open a terminal (ctrl-alt-t) end execute these commands:

sudo rm -rf /var/lib/apt/lists
sudo mkdir /var/lib/apt/lists
sudo mkdir /var/lib/apt/lists/partial
sudo apt-get update

and try the update/upgrade process again.

If the update process still does not work as it should, please follow the instructions in https://help.ubuntu.com/community/PackageManagerTroubleshootingProcedure with the only exception that in step 5 you should not create a new question document, but continue in this current one https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/apt/+question/164828

http://archive.canonical.com/ubuntu/natty/partner i386 Packages
(/var/lib/apt/lists/archive.canonical.com_ubuntu_dists_natty_partner_binary-i386_Packages)
W: You may want to run apt-get update to correct these problems

For the warning message "W: Duplicate sources.list entry...":
You seem to have a double entry somewhere in your sources.list
To identify that please issue the following commands and copy/paste the output as done before:

cat /etc/apt/sources.list
ls -l /etc/apt/sources.list.d

Those two commands do not actually *change* anything (they merely provide detailed information), so unless you separately edited your software sources to remove the duplicate, it is very strange that the warning message has gone away.

Sorry, I neglected to see that it was actionparsnip's commands (which certainly do have the ability to fix things, when run) that you had marked as solving your problem. You can ignore my last post (#19).

@mansur:
You should have created your own question, and not piggyback on an other person's question that has already been marked as solved and whose details are about a completely differebt release of Ubuntu.

There is one minor error in your sources list: you have still the CD from your installation listed as source, and this creates warning messages when you do not have the CD loaded in your CD drive and start a package management program.

To eliminate that, you should proceed as follows:
Open update-manager, click on 'settings' and disable (unmark) all references to a CD on the first AND second tabs.
Then try again with the command

sudo apt-get update

If you need more help create y question of your own with https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/apt/+addquestion
