i have that problem E: Type 'n' is not known on line 2 in source list /etc/apt/sources.list.d/bjfs-ppa-lucid.list

when i run update maneger first came that massege E: Type 'n' is not known on line 2 in source list /etc/apt/sources.list.d/bjfs-ppa-lucid.list
E: The list of sources could not be read.
Go to the repository dialog to correct the problem.
E: _cache->open() failed, please report.
 so i can't run or open update manger or synaptic package manger
i don't know what to do i think that start to be after i wanted to remove the emesne and also is not removed
plz what to do

could you run this in the terminal(without the quotes?): "gksudo gedit /etc/apt/sources.list" and look at line 2. See whether there is a "n" before the line, something like this(without the quotes): "n##"

looks like there is a "n" on the second line. take that "n" out by "sudo nano /etc/apt/sources.list".

Ahraf, did you type the command without the "quotes" ? i think you didn't. could you, please, try "sudo nano /etc/apt/sources.list" without the "quotes". and if you can execute that command, you will see software sources list. on the second line [as from your output of the terminal] there is an extra "n", so, take that "n" out and save it. do "note" that correct spelling of command is also essential. try it out and see if it works.

We need the content of /etc/apt/sources.list.d/bjfs-ppa-lucid.list file so please

Open a Terminal from the menu Applications->Accessories->Terminal and type or better select the row below copy it and paste into terminal window then press enter:

cat /etc/apt/sources.list.d/bjfs-ppa-lucid.list

select terminal result then copy and paste here...

please edit the file with this terminal command

gksudo gedit /etc/apt/sources.list.d/bjfs-ppa-lucid.list

 and remove the standalone "n"

save and exit and retry to upgrade your system
