Codec + Mixer: IDT 92HD75B2X5 - STAC92xx Analog (DUPLEX) Audio device [0403]: ATI Technologies Inc SBx00 Azalia (Intel HDA) [1002:4383] - no sound on Hewlett-Packard / Compaq Presario CQ61 Notebook PC in Ubuntu 9.10 - using ALSA driver 1.0.20

Asked by busby

With a normal installation of Ubuntu 9.10 on my laptop
using movie player or Musicplayer to play .mp3 files (or anything else) gives no sound at all. Sound effects tests do not respond.
How do you get music to play?

No sound on Ubuntu 9.10

Thanks for your interest Mark. I attach the results of the
SoundTroubleshootingProcedure and a copy of the commands the site
recommended. Hopefully you can decipher something significant from these.
Otherwise I could go back to version 9.04 which works well on another
computer.

Please try the last remark from forumuser Emilie at this location:

https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/alsa-driver/+question/81520

Here are those remarks:

"
I added the following lines to the file "/etc/modprobe.d/options.conf":
options snd-pcsp index=-2
alias snd-card-0 snd-hda-intel
alias sound-slot-0 snd-hda-intel
options snd-hda-intel model=hp-hdx

I kept the change from yesterday in the file "/etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf":
alias snd-card-0 snd-hda-intel
alias sound-slot-0 snd-hda-intel
options snd-hda-intel model=hp-hdx

After a reboot there is now sound both in the headphones and the speakers. Thanks for the help.

question100293 No sound from UBuntu 9.10

 Eureka! It now works.
Thanks very much for your help Mark.

All sound systems are operational now since placing the 3 lines into /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf.

There was nothing there originally just the "options snd-pcsp index=-2" near the end of the file.
