using a epson perfection v30 and a dell 962

Asked by Richard A Spearnock

Right now there are no linux umbuntu drivers for the epson v30 and the dell all in one 962. However my old windows machine runs them fine. Is there a best way to transfer the information (scans,faxes etc) to my linux umbuntu 9.04 machine. This would be until the 9.04 drivers are available. I hate to have hardware I paid good money for not to be able to be used.

this does not help.  If i want to still use new hardware and old hardware on unbuntu 9.04 , believe it should be relatively easy to use on Unbuntu and/or an old windows machine, which controls the hardware perfectly, and then to transfer what I need to use in Unbuntu.   This lack of drivers is really a shame if you want Windows people to make the switch.  I am not going out to buy so called supported hardware especially when I don't know to what degree the hardware is supported.  It is a shame that some manufactuers do not want to cooperate with your program, but that is just the way it is.

Linux is not massively supported by the manufacturers due to the fact that Linux simply isnt used as much as Windows. The companies make more money supporting Windows than so called "niche" OSes like Linux.

The trick is to buy slightly older hardware. The developers will not have had time to analyse the hardware which has only been released a few days. Wheras the manufacturers who make the windows drivers know exactly how it works so can release drivers in parallel with the hardware. Some manufactures do openly support Linux (You will find most HP printers work wonderfully). But without support from manufacturers the simple fact is to buy supported hardware to save dissapointment

You may find a PPD somewhere for the printer that someone has made themselves

and for god sake it UBUNTU. Not Unbuntu. Its pronounced OO-BOON-TOO
