dependancy problem firefox package update in update manager

Asked by Maurizio

Update Manager unable to proceed with installation of update packages:
> Firefox Web Browser
> Firefox-globalmenu

Same problem when attempting package update installation with "Ubuntu Tweak" and "Synaptic Manager".

Message returned by Update Manager is to "fix broken packages" before proceeding.
Synaptic Manager doesn't list packages to be fixed.

Have attempted reinstalling "Firefox" with Synaptic Manager. No change.

In forcing installation of mentioned packages, receive message of "dependancy" problem between required libgcc1 >= 1.4.1.1 and 1.5.2.2 version of package updates.

Firefox release currently uploaded is Mozillla Firefox 7.0.1 for Ubuntu Canonical 1.0 and with Ubuntu Secured Remix 11.04 Natty (flanking Windows Vista Home Premium) 32bit O.S.

Any idea what's causing the block?

Fix your broken packages issue.
Run "sudo apt-get -f install"

Solved after purging Firefox and reinstalling it.

I assume that at some stage Firefox must have auto upgraded to release 8.0. If I understand correctly, this release does NOT work correctly with Ubuntu/Natty 11.04, which is my current O.S.

Reinstalling Firefox 7.01 from Ubuntu Software Centre has solved the issue.

Thanks.
