Downloaded disk image appears to be damaged or corrupt

Asked by Michael Graubart

I have made two attempts to download Stellarium 0.11.2 for Mac OS X. Each time I have tried to open it, a message has appeared, saying that the disk image is damaged and opening could damage my system. Please tell me either whether it is safe to open the disk image or, alternatively, how I can obtain a safe, undamaged disk image. Thank you in anticipation.

Dear Alexander,

Yes, universal. This is what it says on the downloaded file: 'Stellarium-0.11.2-Universal.dmg'

Regards,

I originally downloaded it from SourceForge. I have now tried it from your own website, but I am afraid the result is the same: the error message re-appears.

Ouch. For Stellarium series 0.11 minimal version of Mac OS X is 10.5. Latest version of Stellarium for Mac OS X 10.4.11 is 0.10.5. But you can tried build Stellarium on your mac from sources code - instructions you can found here - http://www.stellarium.org/wiki/index.php/Compilation_on_Macosx

I use OS X 10.4.11 on a Mac G4 (PPC). I currently have the previous
version of Stellarium, and it works OK on my system.

Dear Alexander,

Thanks very much for the information. I am not competent to compile the program myself. But what I am puzzled about is that I have Stellarium 0.10.6 on my computer, which I downloaded much more recently than the date 2011-02-18 of the faq 1459, and it seems to work perfectly well in my system.

What I should like to do is to try the latest version and find out whether it will work. So what I need to know at this stage is just: can opening the disk image I have downloaded really damage my system? If not, I can open it and try running the new Stellarioum.

I look forward to your further answer.

Michael Graubart.

I think current binaries of Stellarium 0.11.2 will be not work on Tiger because I build it on Leopard. I can upload zip archive with Stellarium.app and you can tried run it on Tiger.

That would be great, Alexander. Please do that and tell me where I can download the zip archive from.

As I said in my e-mail in reply to Alexander Wolf's last message, I have now confirmed that v. 0.11.2 does not work in my system (Mac G4, OS X 10.4.11). I am very grateful, however, for the help.

Thank you very much, Alexander. You have been very helpful. I have now
tried the new version, and, as you predicted, it does not work in OS X
10.4.11. But v. 0.10.6 does, so I shall continue to enjoy that.
