Hi Mitra,

to be able to help you, we need more detailed information.
So:
1.) Which operating system do you use?
2.) Which file did you download for installation?
3.) Where do you click in the program and what do you see?

Regards,
 Maren

Hi Maren,
Thanks for helping:

1. Windows 8.1, 64 bit
2. https://inkscape.org/en/download/windows/
Downloaded the 64 bit of .91 version
3. Made some changes on an image and tried to export:
      a. clicked on File; export bitmap. In a normal case, a export
screen opens up but in this case nothing happens.

So I UNinstalled the .91 version and installed .48.5, export functions very
well. I hope this helps you to debug the software.
Thanks so much for all you do for free! Appreciate it.

Mmh. This isn't the first report of a missing pop-up dialog on Win 64 bit / Inkscape 0.91.

Mitra, is it possible that you reinstall 0.91 to help with debugging? You could also install it in parallel, so you still have a working (exporting) version available.

Do you get a dialog when you change / play with the settings for dialog behaviour in the Inkscape Preferences (requires restart of Inkscape)? Which were your settings in that category?

(Edit -> Inkscape preferences -> User Interface -> Windows, could you try out different settings for "dialog window behaviour" and "dialogs in foreground" (or similar, German version here) and maybe some other settings there, too?)

We should probably make this a bug report...

Regards,
 Maren

Please also check the dock in the current main window: in 0.91, the bitmap export dialog is no longer floating, but docked in the main window with default preferences - see for example bug #1421222.

Second item to check is any external displays … (see for example bug #1417110).

Actually, I re-installed .91 version and restarted the computer but issue didn't go away!

Mitra, that's exactly what we want ;-)
We need to collect more info, and if the problem would be gone, we would not be able to do so.

If you would like to help, the next steps for you would be:

1.) Tell us if you use more than one monitor
2.) Try to open the export bitmap dialog, and then look at the right, between the canvas with its scrolling bar and the snapping toolbar: Is there a small bar in between those? (dock bar) Is there an icon or some text in it? Can you click on it?
3.) Note your current settings in the 'Windows' tab in the Inkscape preferences dialog (or make a screenshot, so you won't have to remember them)
3.) Play with some of the settings I suggested before. Does this make a difference?

 Maren

Hi Maren,

Sorry for late response! I installed .91 version again as you requested.
The export dialog box is sitting on the right side of the screen. So I
shouldn't have looked for the export dialog box more carefully.
Thanks so much for all the time you spent guiding and resolving the issue.

Hi Mitra,

I'm happy we (well, ~suv, actually!) found the solution :D

(if you don't want this to happen again, you can also just deactivate dockable dialogs and get the floating ones back)

 Maren
