inkscape print A3

Asked by Bernard Matheu

Following question 119077.
My printer brother DCP 6690CW is capable to print in A3 format. I use windows XP
So I created an A3 template, and drew some items with inkscape 0.47.
When printed directly, the drawing was reduced to A4.
I exported the drawing in .pdf, and printed from acrobat the drawing was in the correct A3 dimension.

I guess it is a bug.
But I am happy with the turnaround pdf.
Should you want both files, give me an address.

Answers may be in english, french or spanish.

Cordial regards,

Still no idea why inkscape is not able to print A3 although capable to
export an A3 pdf which prints correctly.

Did you try to manually "re-change" the page size in the printer dialog (the settings of the printer driver) before printing?

possibly related to bug #491231 “Printer dialog in 0.47 gets a page format incorrectly.”

Yes I changed manually. I guess it is a bug similar to the one
described with A4/letter size.
The strange thing is that the export as pdf works well so I can print
in A3 size through adobe with a drawing made with inkscape.

I changed the PC, now vista and same printer A3.
When print dialog pops up, and I click on OK, the appication hangs ...
After rebooting, with the print dialog pops up, I tried the tab
"rendu" and changed the radio button from "vectoriel" to "bitmap". The
language I use is french.

And all worked well.

I find simpler to export as pdf and print from adobe acrobat.

I consider the problem solved.
Thanks.
Bernard

Yes, Inkscape still has lots of printing issues, and this is probably the best workaround.

I had exactly the opposite problem. My Canon i6500 can print in A3 size, though I normally use A4 paper. Every setting in Inkscape, the print manager (I use the commercial Turboprint driver from Zedonet), and Ubuntu "Printing" settings are set for A4. Even "print preview" shows the correct size and print format. As soon as it actually starts to print however, the print manager suddenly shows A3, and printing begins on the wrong part of the page, as though there were A3 paper in the printer. No other program, Gimp, Open Office, etc. shows this behavior, only Inkscape. I also resorted to the Postscript workaround described here and was at last able to print out the page of business cards that I had designed in Inkscape.

Clearly, the way that Inkscape communicates with printers needs some attention.
