HPLIP INSTALLATION DOES NOT ACCEPT SUDOER PSW

Asked by stefano malini

hI,
I'm having a strange problem during hplip (3.15.11) installation on Lubuntu 15.10.
After downloaded the hplip-3.15.11.run file i ran the command:

sh hplip-3.15.11.run
Creating directory hplip-3.15.11
Verifying archive integrity... All good.
Uncompressing HPLIP 3.15.11 Self Extracting Archive..................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................

INSTALLATION MODE
-----------------
Automatic mode will install the full HPLIP solution with the most common options.
Custom mode allows you to choose installation options to fit specific requirements.

Please choose the installation mode (a=automatic*, c=custom, q=quit) :

Initializing. Please wait...

INTRODUCTION
------------
This installer will install HPLIP version 3.15.11 on your computer.
Please close any running package management systems now (YaST, Adept, Synaptic, Up2date, etc).

DISTRO/OS CONFIRMATION
----------------------
Distro appears to be Ubuntu 15.10.

Is "Ubuntu 15.10" your correct distro/OS and version (y=yes*, n=no, q=quit) ?

ENTER USER PASSWORD
-------------------
Please enter the sudoer (***)'s password:
-^

The problem is that it remains firm, only the "|" that keeps turning.

I know the request is ridiculous, but I assure you that the password is correct (i tried using a simple sudo), the user is added to sudoers group...

I'm going crazy!!!

The same process goes well on another pc still with Lubuntu but 14.4 version.

Anyone has an idea about?

Can you let us know the language settings of the OS you are using.

Provide us the output the command 'locale'.

Thanks,

hi,
now i can print and scan but the installation process has gone in a little different way:

as mentioned by Sergey on bug 1521006 after i have seen that was blocked on

ENTER USER PASSWORD
-------------------
Please enter the sudoer (*******)'s password:
/

i stopped the process and ran the command using sudo and followed the gui instructions until this error message:

error: hp-systray cannot be run as root. Exiting

the processes were as below:

$ ps a
...
29877 pts/1 Sl+ 0:00 python /usr/bin/hp-systray
29878 pts/1 S+ 0:00 python /usr/bin/hp-systray
29879 pts/1 S+ 0:00 python /usr/bin/hp-systray

So, i ran

$ hp-systray

$ hp-systray

At this point it didn't exit to the prompt. I had to exit using ctrl+c.

After thet i tried to print and scan and it runs.

I can close the problem as solved.

Thanks to eveybody!
