Current known Fluidity support on different Linux distributions is as follows. If you have any reports from distributions not listed below these would be gratefully received by the Fluidity developers to add to the list.

* Ubuntu

See https://answers.launchpad.net/fluidity/+faq/1580 for detailed build instructions.

10.04 'Lucid' and earlier: Not supported (compiler too old for Fluidity use)
10.10 'Maverick': Not supported for new installs but existing systems should still build Fluidity 4.1.8
11.04 'Natty': Not supported for new installs but existing systems should still build Fluidity 4.1.8
11.10 'Oneiric': Not centrally tested but reported working well by users.
12.04(.01 LTS) 'Precise': Current official testing platform, known-working.
12.10 'Quantal' and later: expected working but not formally tested.

Note: 11.10 and 12.04 both have central packaging for Fluidity supporting software through the 'fluidity-dev' package on ppa:fluidity-core/ppa . The 11.10 packaging is not formally tested (but is in active use within the AMCG group) whilst 12.04(.01 LTS) is the current 'official' version for testing and recommended for all new users. 12.10 packaging is expected to be available in the near future.

* Mint

Expected to behave as per the relevant Ubuntu release from which it is derived.

* RHEL/CentOS/Scientific Linux

5.X and earlier: Not recommended; compiler requires update from EPEL.
6.X: Supported with EPEL and some source package rebuilds; periodic central testing.

See https://answers.launchpad.net/fluidity/+faq/2169 for detailed installation instructions on 6.X and reports of any known issues.

* Fedora

Currently untested centrally but version 12 reported to be working and passing all tests by users, after significant package building from source. Latest version (17) is expected to work as per instructions at https://answers.launchpad.net/fluidity/+faq/2169 but not yet fully tested.

* OpenSuSE

Documented but not yet fully tested with latest version (12.2), and building with a majority of required packages in default repositories but some packages built from source with minor modifications. Documentation at: https://answers.launchpad.net/fluidity/+faq/2209

Versions earlier than 12.2 are not tested or documented by the central Fluidity team. However, any users on 11.x will find that the education repository is required for many packages, including an updated version of GCC.

* Debian

Currently untested, but Debian Unstable ('Sid') should have the majority of packages needed for building Fluidity. It is suggested that users on Debian Unstable rebuild the packages in ppa:fluidity-core/ppa and then make use of the fluidity-dev package to pull in the required dependencies from system repositories. (It is assumed that users of Unstable are technically-minded and will be able to deal with this build with little trouble; note that GCC 4.7 requires a patched version of Zoltan 3.6, as per the details in https://answers.launchpad.net/fluidity/+faq/2169).

* Gentoo

Untested.

* Slackware

Untested.

* Mandriva

Untested.

* Arch Linux

Untested.

* Knoppix

Untested.
