Trace Bitmap

I can't get Trace Bitmap to work.
How do I know what options to fill in for Mode window? threshold? Color? Scans?
Preview doesn't work.

Yes, I downloaded Inkscape. I open inkscape, open a jpeg, go to Paths then
Trace Bitmap. Dialouge box does not come up to select options .Does not
Trace Bitmap.
What do I have to if I want to delet this program and maybe redownload it
again maybe it'll work . It worked only first time I downloaded the program.
What;s up with that? Please advise.

Which Inkscape version on which platform are you using? There are two known issues with the 'Trace bitmap' dialog in Inkscape (one of them specific to the Windows port of Inkscape). It seems you are affected by both:

Workaround: either reopen the SVG file with the imported JPEG image and try again, or use menu 'View > Duplicate Window' and open the 'Trace Bitmap' dialog in the second window
