Bug Description

Trace bitmap dialog works as expected when you open it for the first time, you can make as many traces as you wish as long as the dialog is open (docked or floating).

When you close the dialog and open it again it is empty.

Affects 0.46 official and dev builds, tested on fedora 8.

-----
See comment #10: only occurs with 'Show close button on dialogs' checked in the preferences

Still present in the 0.47 pre packages, and from what I remember also present in a repository build I did as of late last week (have since moved to the pre 0.47 packages in the ppa).

Is there any possibility this gets fixed before 0.47 final?

If it wasn't clear enough, I was on GNOME btw.

@Bruno: could you describe a series of steps that consistently reproduce the error on your system? It might also be helpful to give more detailed information about your system and inkscape version.

Sure:

Inkscape 0.47~pre0-0ubuntu1~9.04 on Ubuntu 9.04 64bits.

1 - Open Inkscape
2 - Drag and drop an image to the main window
3 - Open trace bitmap and use it
4 - Close trace bitmap window
5 - Open trace bitmap and the window is empty

I also notice two weird things with dialogs transparency (although that
is offtopic), drop down menus in Inkscape preferences make the
preferences window transparent and at least gradient editor doesn't
become transparent when it loses focus. I'll search for or open
bugs/wishlist reports for that.

It reproduced on Arch Linux (x86_64), Inkscape trunk-r9450.
In my case, when 'Show close button on dialogs' in preference is on, this issue occurs.

Not reproduced if this option is unchecked.

The failure is "per window" not "per process": when opening a new document or duplicate the window of current the 'Trace Bitmap' dialog is filled with all widgets again when called the first time there, and empty when opened again.

Also it happens to me on Inkscape 0.47 r22583, built Apr 4 2010 with Ubuntu 10.10 (upgraded). Exactly the same as Bruno Santo described in post #9, and aslo as ~suv noticed, it's a per window failure... I do many vectorizations, and it's quite annoying.

Also affects the new (trunk only) Trace pixel art dialog. Not a surprise since it is based on the Trace bitmap dialog.

Just reporting this still exists in 0.91, both 32- and 64-bit versions, Windows 7, 64-bit.

I'm not sure what to make of this. When I reported in the previous comment that the behavior still exists, this is how I could reproduce it consistently.

-- Import some raster image
-- Open Trace Bitmap
-- Close Trace Bitmap - (no matter if I actually perform a trace or not)
-- Open Trace Bitmap - the dialog is blank

I've been writing some tutorials, and adding a note about this issue, since the tutorials are specifically about using TB. But yesterday, for no reason that I can figure, the 2nd opening of TB shows the dialog normally, as expected! I have no idea what changed. This is using the exact same versions and system as with my comment above.

Let me know if I can provide any kind of documentation :-)

Hhmmm..... I've been using a custom template for these tutorials. I'll try with default doc.... Well nope, no difference. I must have changed some pref somewhere....and of course there have been Windows updates... Well, who knows!?

All best :-)
