Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. This bug did not have a package associated with it, which is important for ensuring that it gets looked at by the proper developers. You can learn more about finding the right package at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage . I have classified this bug as a bug in linux, as this is the place where web cam drivers live.

Actually the bug #276495 is older and has more information. Bug #441491 should be made duplicate of #276495, not the other way (as is now).

My MSI wind U123 exibits the same behavior. I wonder if this is a regression. This link (cached) from jaunty describes the exact same behavior as fixed via a kernel update:

I agree that the older bug report has a bit more information.

MORE INFO:

Somehow the camera works fine on a Live CD/USB. but after installation
the camera does not work at all. I hope this info will help fix these
bugs. It looks inherent for both jaunty and karmic.

there is not much to investigate: USB hub drivers are not working properl. All people using the latest kernel from Karmic on MSI wind U100 are affected by this issue.
waiting for new kernel.....

Robin Becker (robin-reportlab) wrote :

I am not certain this is an issue with the kernel. I have an msi-wind that runs 8.10 happily and have been trying to upgrade to 9.04/9.10 for some time and the camera and various other issues have put me off. As part of my investigations I have run the 2.6.31-10 kernel in my 8.10 system and the Fn+F6 bug is then not present; so the bug doesn't appear to travel with the kernel.
