Bug Description

Please backport subversion 1.6.x to jaunty. At the moment packages are available in jaunty/karmic for 1.5.x.

Debian-experimental has packages for subversion 1.6. (At the time of writing, the version is 1.6.1dsfg1.)

In terms of tangible benefits, the main reason to upgrade is interoperability with other subversion clients:
 - the format for a working directory has changed in 1.6;
 - and a 1.6 client will automatically update it to the new format;
 - clients older than 1.6 no longer work once this happens.

At the moment other tools I use, such as the subclipse plugin for Eclipse, have upgraded making the jaunty's package the old one and unable to work once any of the other tools have touched the working directory.

As a workaround, I was able to directly install the subversion/libsvn packages from debian-experimental. (I also needed to pull in apr/sqlite/icu updates but the version dependencies may reflect compile-time conditions, not absolute version requirements.)

Backport is only for packages already in Karmic. You need to ask first in the bugs for subversion package.
