22.04LTS firmware does not work for an iwlwifi 802.11 interface that did work under 20.04LTS

Bug Description

I just updated in place (no new harddrive, no new partitions) from 20.04LTS to 22.04LTS. Everything worked except that there is a firmware loading diagnostic (along with a separate failure to compile the VMWare kernel support -- but that may be a VMWare issue, not Ubuntu). Thus, the 802.11 hardware is NOT "seen" by the kernel, etc. (I am using bluetooth to Android phone to our 802.11 network to get to the Internet right now -- not the laptop 802.11). and more. The machine is a HP Zbook G2 that had no issues with Ubuntu 20.04LTS. Any help would be appreciated. Would it work to downgrade the firmware .deb to 20.04LTS or would this be not compatible with the current 22.04LTS production kernel or environment. If downgrading would work, please provide "detailed" instructions (e.g., the apt command invocations to use).

Firmware for Linux kernel drivers is what is reported by Synaptic package manager. However, the issue is "chunk loading" -- is this a result of a the firmware binary code values being put into place or is it application actually putting the values into place? Is this "putting" done by the kernel or by other systems components?

I just followed https://askubuntu.com/questions/311622/downgrading-iwlwifi
for Intel 7260 using -17 ucode. However, the rmmod iwldvm && rmmod iwlwifi
modprobe iwlwifi && modprobe iwldvm did not work as there is no iwldvm module . Could this be the issue or is iwldvm replaced by something else? I changed into /usr/local/lib/firmware, using sudo for all operations, and after iwldvm failed I did the rmmod iwlwifi followed by modprobe iwlwifi but this did not activate the Intel 7260. Was there a change between Ubuntu 20.04LTS and 22.04LTS (e.g., a different kernel and kernel support systems)?
