Step 4

Please also specify the exact model and make of your PC (if known) when creating the new Launchpad question.

HP ZbookG2

Please also specify the name of the wireless access point that you are trying to connect to (not the model/make of your router).
Verizon hotspot to a 4G network; hardware identifies as Orbic

Step 5

Please also clarify if you installed Ubuntu to the harddisk and are running from a harddisk install OR if you are only testing Ubuntu in a Live CD session.

Ubuntu 22.04LTS upgrade in place from 20.04LTS . All the hardware worked under 20.04LTS.

Step 6

Use the

lspci -nn

command to discover the Vendor and Device ID for your wireless adapter.

3d:00.0 Network controller [0280]: Intel Corporation Wireless 7260 [8086:08b1] (rev 6b)

NOTE: I have already posted the fact that under 22.04LTS the above hardware using the Ubuntu driver fails to load the firmware for the 7260 and thus the 7260 does not work. It did under 20.04LTS. The above steps are from: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/WirelessTroubleshootingProcedure PLEASE REPLY. There is at least one other ZbookG2 user who has the same issue based on an Ask Ubuntu thread.

What is the "trouble"? The wifi has an IP address assigned to it. Can you ping 8.8.8.8 OK?

I have purchased and "plugged-in" a USB 802.11 external adapter that was
advertised as being fully supported by Linux without additional drivers
or software. That interface is working, but the internal Intel "card"
is not working since I upgraded in place from Ubuntu 20.04LTS to
22.04LTS, both production current.

Apparently your E-Mail system garbles the information, so please look at the question document on the Launchpad web pages.

Please provide the output of the command

sudo dmesg | grep -E '02:00|80211|acx|at76|ath|b43|bcm|brcm|CX|eth|ipw|ireless|irmware|isl|lbtf|orinoco|ndiswrapper|NPE|ound|p54|prism|rror|rtl|RTL|rt2|RT2|rt3|RT3|rt5|RT5|rt6|RT6|rt7|RT7|usb|witch|wl'

NOTE: as for email, I use USA gmail.com and I use IMAP to gmail from stock (not distro) Thunderbird that I separtely install from thunderbird NOT Ubuntu and update using the internal Thunderbird "Help --> About Thunderbird" that requests updates. I must run this update as a GUI root login because Ubuntu does not allow for authentication so that I can update Thunderbird as a GUI equivalent of sudo. I run both Thunderbird and Mozilla Firefox by this method so that I avoid any errors due to "porting" to a distro; I only use production (not beta) versions. I also have Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge (both production) installed/updated via Ubuntu as some web sites (typically commercial for profit in the USA) only work with Chrome, or in some cases, Edge, similar to the requirement at one time to use Internet Exploder (or Opera before it was Chrome and at that epoch properly "impersonated" IE). I mention all of the above only to be clear as to my access to typical Internet-based services. (IE had no Linux port -- I used CrossOver as possible, otherwise VirtualBox with native MS Win running native IE as guests under a Linux host.)

I do not see anything that can still be done here in the question area. In my opinion this issue should be continued in the bug report.

Thank you. Assuming that you have examined the output from the command
line you provided and submitted to what I hope was the "bug report", is
this indeed a software defect in some aspect of 22.04LTS, possibly the
kernel and/or support systems for the kernel? Presumably, something in
the device driver (or other bits of the systems software) binary changed
from 20.04 LTS to 22.04 LTS, and presumably would be in common with
other Debian-derived distros. I am not arguing that the platform (HP
Zbook G2) is not "old", but that it is a 64 bit Intel-based system with
hardware that was supported by 20.04LTS; due to the environmental impact
of "recycling" computers, I attempt to keep these in service as long as
possible. Is there any guess as to the time interval to a "fix" (other
than continuing to use an USB 802.11 interface)?

Can you help with this problem?
