Zim

Do you plan support copy/paste the SVG images?

Asked by Alex

Hello.

I HUGE like zim! Every day I do many log records in it. Every day I copy/paste many screenshots with many arrows for the guides/manuals. But some time I need correct that images but it is impossible because all inserted images are *.png. I think that it is convinient to support the svg images in zim to edit that images later. Zim store and show the *.svg and inkscape can edit then. It is Cool!

What are you thinking?

I think zim already supports SVG. If you insert an SVG file as an
attachment, zim will be able to display it (assuming Gtk is compiled with
SVG support) and you can indeed open it with inkscape.

You refer to screenshots being inserted as PNG, but I don't think that has
anything to do with zim. Screenshots are by definition pixel-based images.
If you have SVG content, don't take a screenshot, but just copy the file to
the zim folder.

Jaap

I working with Windows and use the portable version of Zim 0.60 and Desktop Version 0.60 with Windows 8. I insert an SVG as an attachment and got a little white square not the svg-picture.
Is it a problem of Zim or Python?
Is it possible do with windows 8 in general?

Can you check this with your Zim installation and if it work then can you take me your configuration (OS[Linux/Windows], Python [compile yourself or download bin and python version], Zim version[desktop/portable])?

This is Gtk level library. Apparently you do not have the svg library that
can be used by Gtk.

Works fine for me, but I installed all libraries from scratch. Please do an
internet search on Gtk fro windows and it will probably include notes where
to put the svg library. Otherwise consult the mailing list for experience
of others with installing this.

Hi Alex, could you ever get this to work in Windows (7 or 8)?

I can add an svg as a regular file attachment, and then a link to it (and have it launch Inkscape), but ZIM will not display the image content at all (unless I paste a copy of the image as a bitmap). I am using the latest stable zim version (0.62) on windows 7 enterprise.

Thanks

Couldn't get this to work, so I ended up opening a bug for this:

[Bug 1424829] [NEW] Can't insert SVG image

https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1424829

It would be really awesome (for my use case at least :) to get this to work. After years of using TomboyNotes I was looking forward to be able to include svg diagrams in my notes

Can you help with this problem?
