Zim

Open another notebook doesn't work

Asked by Anders Eriksson

I'm running version 0.53 of Zim on Windows 7 and I can't figure out how to open an another notebook.
The only way is to change the default notebook and then restart the program.

I have tried to double click on the notebook I want to open but I just go back to the already open notebook.

How is this suppose to work?

Yes, it is. Why don't you try with the version 0.56 that is available
for windows ?

Sorry, I have version 0.56 and it's not working!

I have 4 notebooks.
I select File - Open another notebook.
I then get a list of my notebooks
I select the one that I want to open
I then click on OK
The dialog closes and I'm back in the already open notebook (the default one)

or
instead of just selecting I double click on the notebook I want to open
The dialog closes and I'm back in the already open notebook (the default one)

The ONLY way to change notebook is to change the default and restart the program!

I'm running Windows 7 Ultimate, SP 1

Best Wishes

Sounds like you should file a bug report and check the error log for
any hints that can help us solve it. Have a look at %TMP%/zim.log for
error messages.

Jaap

I experience the same problem with zim 0.56 on Windows 7: Selecting another notebook from the systray icon or File -> Open Another Notebook lets me select another Notebook but when I click OK, no new zim window appears.

ERROR: Failed running: ['C:\\Program', 'Files', '(x86)\\Zim', 'Desktop', 'Wiki\\zim.exe', '--server', '--gui', 'file:///C:/Users/Alex/Desktop/Workspace/branches/zim-tilpasning-udvikling/infrastruktur', '--no-daemon']
Traceback (most recent call last):
File "zim\applications.pyo", line 216, in spawn
GError: Fejl under kørsel af underprocess (Invalid argument)

Could it be related to that zim starts with English UI when invoked from it's icon but starts with a Danish UI when invoked from a .zim notebook file?

No, the problem is that "C:\\Program Files" is split int "C:\\Program"
and "Files". Since the folder "C:\\Program" doesn't exist, the command
fails. This has been fixed in zim 0.57.

Is there a date when a Windows installer for Zim 0.57 will be ready?

Depends on volunteers to compile it - so far mailing list is silent,
but feel free to ask there.

I did deliver the code version, which runs fine on windows given the
right prerequisites.
