spell checking plugin fails to work in ubuntu 9.04

Asked by Partha P. Goswami

I am using zim-0.46 in ubuntu 9.04. Everything is working fine except the Spell Checker plugin. Whenever I want to activate, it
is showing "gtkspell-failed". I checked for installed packages and found that "libgtk2-spell-perl 1.03-3" and "libgtkspell0 2.0.13-2" packages are installed. I understand that some python bindings for the gtkspell library is required. But I could not figure out how to get it. I have also installed "python-gnome2-extras" package but the things have not improved, indicating that it does not contain the required binding. I will be obliged if you please indicate the exact required package for ubuntu 9.04 .

Thanks.

Dear Sir:
I have mentioned in my original question that I have already tried
installing "python-gnome2-extras" (as proposed in
http://zim-wiki.org/manual/Plugins/Spell_Checker.html) but that does not
solve the problem. This is apparently because the said package does not
contain Python language bindings for this Gtkspell library. I am talking in
respect of ubuntu 9.04 and using the synaptic package manager provided
therein. I repeat that the packages "libgtk2-spell-perl 1.03-3" and
"libgtkspell0 2.0.13-2" are already installed in my system. My question is
how to get the Python language bindings for the Gtkspell library for ubuntu
9.04.

Thank you for the response.

Try the package python-gnome2-extras, as is described on the linked page.

Hi Partha,

My excuses for not reading your question properly the first time around.

I went over the package list and it seems there is a separate package called "python-gtkspell" in newer versions of Ubuntu. This would be the one you need.

Regards,

Jaap

I had the same "problem" until I discovered a very silly omission on my part:
In the "Tools" menu, I had to select "Check spelling"!

Once I did that, I can see spell check in all its glory: lots of red squiggly underlines on my page!
(I think it could be worth adding to the wiki page -- to select "Tools-->Check spelling", because I kept checking the settings too many times, re-installing the dependencies and so on!)

Can you help with this problem?
