YADE cons. law to realize viscoelastic modelling of asphalt?

Asked by Harsh Patel

I wish to model compaction of asphalt mixture using YADE. It is very easy to do the same using Burger's model in PFC2D/PFC3D but it is a very expensive commercial software and a blackbox which cannot be edited. I was wondering which constitutive law (https://yade-dem.org/wiki/ConstitutiveLaws) I should use to study asphalt compaction in YADE?

Hello,
I personally have no experience with asphalt modeling, so a short notes:
There is no Burger's model available in the "official" yade version. See [1,2] for possible solutions.
Google with "yade burgers model" gives a few papers using Burgers's or other material model for modeling asphalt [3], you may have a look.
cheers
Jan

Hi, I think a lubrication model would make perfect sense since asphalt is
a typical dense viscous suspension. Lubrication is a non linear
generalization wrt Burger model. In a sense. You may check Marzougui paper
in Yade publications and grep «lubrication» in yade doc and source (sorry,
no real browsing available to me at the moment... I can't give accurate
pointers).
Regards
Bruno

Thank you Jan and Bruno for your responses.

Jan: I will mail @behzad and ask him if he was able to model the Burger model (in ref to this question: https://answers.launchpad.net/yade/+question/247142)

Bruno: I got the paper you are referring to (https://link.springer.com/article/10.1007%2Fs10035-015-0560-6) and will look into it to see if it fits my model framework.
