Alex Harrington proposed the following answer:
You get a rough preview in the designer, but it's not possible to preview all content there.

The easiest solution is to run a client on the PC you're designing from.
You can then create a new layout, schedule it just to your PC. Check it's OK and then reschedule it to your live display.
