VISTA PC ??
I installed the xibo Client on a VISTA PC and have some problems.
Somehow content and the RSS feeds are not updated … just showing “Loading…“
Internet connection is active so …
After closing xibo client and restarting it I just get the XIBO logo splash screen - nothing else…
What could be the reason for that?
Some how the Client does not connect to the Internet - I think… But when I go to Xibo options – “Register Display” the result is: “Display is active and ready to start.”
I checked the “ZoneAlarm” Firewall… no problem there…
What can I do?

First check where the local library directory on the client you've configured exists and the client can write to it.
Are there files in that directory? If so, delete them and run the client again for a few minutes. Do they reappear?
If you're sending larger files, note that the client will download ALL the media items from all the scheduled layouts before getting the schedule so it can take a fair amount of time for that to happen. A good plan is to schedule just one simple layout initially (eg the default we ship with Xibo) as that will download very quickly.
Next clear the local library again and then disable Zone Alarm and any other firewall completely. Does that make a difference?
Finally turn debugging and auditing on in the server, and auditing on for that display in the display management section. Clear the client library again and run the client up. Alot of logging should be generated showing what's going on.
When we have some idea what the problem is, we can drill in to it further.

The error means nothing to me as I can't understand what it says. I guess though that you deleted the library contents while the client was still running.
I run a client on Vista and didn't have to do anything different to XP to make it work, so I don't think it's a UAC issue.
I know Dan will be looking at Windows 7 shortly as there are issues running the client there. Perhaps you have a Windows Update I don't have installed.

Also have you done as I suggested and test this with a very simple layout such as the default we ship.
It might be that the videos you're sending are taking longer than your PHP maximum execution time to checksum each time - which is causing the hang at the splash screen.
Try with really simple layouts first and build up.

My Vista installation is a new and up to date… better go for windows XP I guess….
The video is playing fine after all… the rss feeds are not updating…
I will try now with a more simple Layout…

Ok just tried it with a simple layout - with tow RSS-feeds…
I had to delete all files in the local library directory otherwise the changes I made wouldn’t show up in the xibo player ... but than that new Layout was running fine… after reboot same problem again… no updated RSS-feed …
I checked the Xibo Server… The display is shown as “logged In”… Even so it seams that somehow Xibo can’t update files in the local library directory because of… I don’t know…

Are you using the 1.0.3 version of the client?
Do you get any messages in the Xibo server log? (open the filter and alter the seconds to go back). Look for entries from "Client".
If you right click the Xibo icon and "Run as administrator" does that make any difference?
What is the update interval of the two RSS items you are trying to show? The Loading RSS message will be shown in the period of time it takes Xibo to connect to the external RSS source and save the RSS file.
In your Xibo client library do you have any files saved with the .xml extension and a long name? These will be the cached RSS content. If you do have these files and you inspect them to see if they are your missing feed.
Are you sure you can get to the RSS feeds from that PC in IE?
Xibo definitely works on Vista clients - so it is likely to be something specific with your machine / connection.

I think that before we can take this further we need to get some logging from the client. We will require more verbose logging.
Can you download / install the Debug client? Make sure the display has auditing set to "yes" in the server interface and follow the report fault procedure (creating the problem on the client while full logging is on).
Hopefully this will show us the more detailed output from when the client is trying to get the RSS.
Also, another question... do you sit behind a proxy server that might be interfering with the internet connection?
Cheers,
Dan

Now I uninstalled the xibo player und installed the debug version instead...
Just get the Xibo logo… no content at all… nothing downloaded to the local library directory
Xibo options “Register Display” says: “Display is active and ready to start.”
Even so on the Xibo Server the display is shown as NOT “logged In”.
No proxy server
Thanks

I did some more testing and installed the regular xibo player again…
The player only connects to the server when it is started as auto start-up program…
If I try to start the player with a click on the exe file I just get the xibo logo…
This is really strange… If I go the auto start-up program folder and click on the xibo shortcut the play starts fine and is even updating the rss feeds one time… after waiting for 10 Minutes the Rss feeds are not updates again so…
What is going on here?????

I do not know of anything that would cause the links to behave differently... the auto start-up is merely a short cut to the exe.
Just out of curiosity, is the RSS feed to only thing on your layout? And is that layout the only thing scheduled?
If so, Xibo will not update that RSS feed - as I never expires the media. Try putting an empty text item on your layout with a short duration (5 seconds or so). This should trigger the update.
This is similar to this bug: https:/

Problem solved
Like I said I’m not that familiar with VISTA…
During the installation I thought I have to change the installation Folder from “Program Files” to “Programme” (the German default program installation folder) … If I do this something goes wrong - which causes that the exe file of the xibo player does not start if clicked on it…
BUT
If I don’t change the name of the installation Folder c:/program Files/ xibo player/ Vista does install the files anyway do c:/programme/xibo player/
This seams to be a build in feature – I didn’t know about…
now Xibo player is running fine…
Rss feeds are updated after I added the empty text item…
PUHHHHH…. Took me quid a time to figure this out….
Thanks a lot for your help ….

Ah! Glad you managed to get it working...
The install issue is odd, at least the default setting is good.
Cheers, Dan
