Client showing old template that is retired & DefaultLayout is new template

Asked by webdmz

Hi Dan & Alex,

Thanks for great project.

Server Environment: Win Srv 03, Apache 2.2.9, PHP 5.2.6, MySQL
Client Environment: Win XP Pro

Server and Client are installed properly.

- At the client installation I had created Layout called TEST1 (had two regions: image & embed-video with white screen background) Which was showing fine but as soon as it starts playing the video the screen became black but was able to hear audio. (This was default layout under "edit a display option")

- Than I created 2nd layout called TEST2. (it has 4 regions, Image, Text, flash video (uploaded) and Ticker with blue sceen background). I added it to schedule but it didn't start on the time and was showing only TEST1 layout. So I retired the TEST1 layout and made TEST2 as a default layout in edit a Display sceen. Still it was not starting so I deleted the schedule. It still keeps on showing TEST1 Layout and embed-video does not work either.

- I was not sure if it would help or not, so to take a chance, I have reinstalled the client but it still shows TEST1 layout and I am not able to play the video also.

Let me know if you need any more information.

Appreciate your help.

Thanks & Regards,
DM

Hi DM

On the client, please go in to the options and to the Register tab and click the Register button. What is shown in the results text box?

If there is an error shown, press the Display Admin button. What happens?

Hi DM

On the video issue. Please can you open that video on the client machine in Windows Media Player (not Windows Media Player Classic, VLC Player or any other video playing application, only Windows Media Player will do!) and see if the video is shown.

I expect you have the codec required to play that video missing from the client PC.

Alex,

For Register Tab: Results box shows - "Display is active and ready to start."
After pressing Disply Admin button:
Display ID = 1
Lincensed = Green
Display = <client name>
Interleave = Green
Logged In = red (When client is off & Green when client is on)

Under EDIT tab
Display = <client name>
Interleave Default = Yes
Is Autditing = Yes
License = <key number>
Default Layou = Test2
Revoke License = No

Regarding - Media Player:

TEST1 template - I had video that was embeded from blip.tv for test. It is not downloaded. I entered the URL for that video and it started for few seconds and came black screen. So it seems to be a codec issue. This seems to be a .m4v format. I will download the codec and see if that runs. If you know which codec to install, please let me.

URL for video - http://blip.tv/play/gqt6pOMBgbAc%2Em4v

BTW I found the link from blip.tv that plays in regular Windows Media Player. I want to replace the link but as I have 'retired' Test1 template, I can not access and change the template. Test1 is not in Layout list but when I run client it only shows Test1 layout.

URL: http://blip.tv/play/AaTjAQA - this works in media player

Appreciate your help.

DM

Hi,
How are you embedding the video?

Have you:
a) Downloaded the video onto your machine and then uploaded it to the Xibo
server
b) Used the "embed" media type and copied the video URL in
c) Some other method

If you have retired the layout you can easily un-retire it. Simply go to the
layout administration screen and click on the "filter" button. This will
show some options - you can select to show the retired layout (and un-retire
it).

Regarding the client... you can force it to re-download its entire schedule
by deleting the contents of the client library folder (the one you set in
Xibo options). If it still shows Test1 then there that layout must still
either be:

a) The default layout for the display
b) Scheduled on the display

Cheers,
Dan
