uploading .pps files

Asked by Rob Robertson

Hi guys,

Trying to upload the above type files and I get a message: Only PPT files are accepted - Are you sure this is an powerpoint? OK
there is an OK button and nothing else on that pop-up.

This message comes up after I browse for the file, hit ok to upload it, and get a message in the add media window: "File upload complete". However, the file never makes it to the server.

I did upload the ppt version of my pps, however, at the client once I have enabled ppt, the layout runs, but when it comes to the PPT file it prompts you to open the file, which opens PowerPoint, but does not launch the slideshow. That is why I am trying to upload the pps file. Am I doing something wrong on the ppt file, or on the client that makes it so that the slideshow does not run automatically?

Thanks,
Rob

Hi Rob

Instructions for setting up Powerpoint files, and the client to play Powerpoints are in the old labs site here:
http://labs.xibo.org.uk/blueprints/Home/documentation/-net-client-setup-steps (this is also linked from the Launchpad Answers FAQ section here: https://answers.launchpad.net/xibo/+faq/443)

We're moving documentation over to the new wiki slowly (http://wiki.xibo.org.uk), but this has not moved across yet.

There is also the manual for Xibo (which doesn't cover this as it happens) at http://www.xibo.org.uk/manual

Cheers

Alex

Is there a way to get around the 2MB limit for uploading files?

Hi Rob

I don't mind answering your questions, in fact I'm happy to, but it's really helpful if you could look through the existing questions before asking a new question.

Your question has already been answered here: https://answers.launchpad.net/xibo/+question/66775

I only have a finite amount of time I can spend on Xibo, and the more I spend answering questions means less spent on new development.

Cheers

Alex

Hi,

I'm trying to upload a pps and it's coming back with the same message as above.

Only PPT files are accepted - Are you sure this is an powerpoint?

I did a search in the knowledge base and didn't see a response to it.

Thanks,

David

Hi David

All you need to do is rename the file to have a .ppt extension. There's no difference between the two. pps files however tell the shell to launch them straight in to a full screen running presentation - which is not what we want.

You'll still need to do the Powerpoint parts from http://labs.xibo.org.uk/blueprints/Home/documentation/-net-client-setup-steps and make sure you turn of scrollbars in Powerpoint (see the final section of the Introduction and Basic Operations guide) http://wiki.xibo.org.uk/wiki/Training_Documentation

Cheers
