Forking Xibo

Asked by Xarc

I am interested in forking Xibo and offering a another version that has several changes including the interface from CKEditor to TinyMCE. But my question comes to the Android app, since that appears not to be open source then what are the rules regarding developing an Android player for this new version?

Hi

You are of course welcome to fork Xibo, but it might be better for everyone
if you were to discuss the changes you want to make with the main Xibo team
and see if there's a way we can integrate your changes in to main Xibo
codebase.

I take it you're also aware of what is coming in 1.7 as there are some huge
changes there.

Regarding the legalities of the licence, the CMS and Open Source clients
are licenced under the AGPLv3 or later version and that clearly sets out
your rights and responsibilities.

The Android client is commercial and not subject to those restrictions.

Further advice on what is and isn't allowed by the licence terms should be
sought from a lawyer qualified to give you legal advice on the matter.

Best wishes

Alex
