Problem RSS Feed

Asked by Thomas

Hi

I have just the problem, that when I have 4 items in my RSS Feed, it shows theese four feeds, but then a fifth one, that is empty, means a clean page with nothing.

I've tried it with several RSS Feeds....

I installed the newest version of xibo (Server and Client).

Thanks
Thomas

I don't understand what your problem is.

Please can you describe exactly how you've configured the Ticker media in your layout, what you expect the output to be, and what the output you get is?

Please also give the actual URLs for the RSS feeds you're using, the versions of Xibo you're using (server and client), and the operating systems they're running on

Hi

I have an RSS Feed with fout items to show. Then I put the direction to 'Single' and want to display one item after the other.... So Item1, Item2, Item3....

Now my xibo server displays every time an item at the end of the presentation, and this one is empty ant to much.

Server: Version 1.4.2
CLient: Version 1.4.2
OS: WIndows 7 SP1 x64

Example Feed : http://rss.orf.at/debatten.xml

After the last item 'Was ist debatte.ORF.at?', it shows one that is an empty page...

The last item in your feed has no description so depending on which fields
you're showing you would get a blank space when that item was being shown.

Hi ALex

No, that's not the problem. As I sayed, I tried several RSS Feeds, and the problem is the same.
In this RSS Feed, i see the last item with the Title '<title>Was ist debatte.ORF.at?</title>'. After this item, it shows a blank page for the same duration as all the other feeds.....

I actually experienced something similar (probably) on my test display this morning. I had several RSS tickers in a region that I removed all the content from. for the past few days the ticker items would just display "cannot show feed" or something to that effect...but this morning when I got to the office that entire region was black (i'm actually assuming it wasn't black but just not displaying as the background i'm using has a black box for that region). it was displaying as black for the entire duration of that region, not just the ticker items (there are a couple of embedded code items). I checked the info screen (pressing i on the keyboard attached to the computer) and it was full of errors saying the feeds were empty. and one or two just saying it couldn't load a feed.

none of that should prevent the region from ticking over to the next non-ticker item though.

i removed all the empty ticker items from the layout and it returned to normal operation.

Sry, but thats not the same problem. My feed is still working. After the blank page, it restarts with the items of the feed. just after the last item, there is still a blank item(page) after the feed. i tried it also with the xibo RSS Feed, and the same problem occurs...

I can't replicate the problem with the equipment I have available to me.
Nobody here gets paid to answer your questions. Commercial support should

Hi Alex, it's just to give me a feedback for my question, sry.
You just need the newset version of Xibo and a region with a RSS Ticker and multiple items in Single Mode, that'a all.

Please let me know if you got some time for that.

I realy like xibo server, and want to use the solution in my enterprise.
That's why I asked....

Best Thomas

Hi Thomas

I created a new layout. On that layout I have one region. In that region I
have a ticker configured as follows:

Direction: Single
Scroll Speed: 2
Number of Items:
Fit Text to Region: off
Copyright:
Duration: 10
Update Interval: 0
from the: start of the feed
Duration is per item: off

The feed I'm using is internal but it's an rss feed with 2 items in it - no
blank items.

The client behaves as I would expect. Item 1 loads, then after 5 seconds it
fades in to item 2, then the layout reloads and we go back to item 1

I wonder if where you're seeing a "blank item" it's the time it's taking
for the client to fetch your RSS feed from the internet if you have your
Update Interval set to 0 too? Try increasing that to 10 or 15 minutes and I
suspect the blank will go away.

Thanks for that

So I put your content into my RSS Feed, and the same error occurs. It shows the two Items, and at the end, there is a third one blank. If you don't believe, i made a video for you :-)

And the properties of the Ticker are:

Thomas

It's waiting for the rest of your layout to expire. It's not putting in a
"blank" item.

If you put that on a layout by itself you'll see what I mean.

Ok, but how can I solve this problem?
I have three RSS Tickers and one Website with a slider on it. The slider cannot have a duration of 20 seconds, else it stars every 20 second with the same slider.....

None of the tickers in Xibo are continuous at the moment.

If you put in a scrolling ticker you'll see when it gets to the end the content goes off the screen before it restarts. That's basically what's happening here.

The only way that could change would be to alter the way we handle tickers in the client. I know they have been overhauled in 1.5.1 ready for 1.6 to make them easier to setup etc.

You would be best logging this as a feature request in Launchpad Blueprints (https://blueprints.launchpad.net/xibo) - unless someone already has continuous running tickers in there.

Ok, thanks for your answers and you greate work.....

I will then wait for the new versions of xibo an hope that the RSS Ticker will be overhauled.

Thomas
