Users permission for one region

Asked by Andrea

Hi, I have a problem with user permissions (v. 1.4.2.)
I assigned to some users permissions to view and modify just one layout of all existing in my platform. I need to make those users able to modify just one region in the layout I assigned them.
My purpose is to allow them to edit the contents only. They shouldn’t drag or modify region properties.
Setting permissions for one region they can’t select other ones. This is correct.

Here’s the problem:
When they try to drag a region in layout stage system can’t allow them to do it: “You don’t have the permission to edit layout”, but if they do right-click on the region and then click on properties they can change offset and size values, disrupting the whole layout.

What am I doing wrong?

Thanks in advance and regards,
Andrea

Just and idea. Set the order of the media in the layout slide 1.2.3.4.5 .... or video 1..2.3.4.5.... Give them a playlist of what the media order is. Grant them access to the Libary they can change/update the media file with the new content.

Hi Mike

When updating from the library you'll only update layouts you have
permission to make that change on. So the users would still need permission
to edit that regions timeline and the media items contained within it.

Thanks for idea, Mike.
I'm afraid I can't do that because the region I'm talking about is a txt-type, so there is not library in it.
The users should feed the region typing some news using WYSIWYG editor.

If your looking just to update text. Look into making a private simple RSS feed. Use the ticker option. Worked for us.

We had to play with the ticker editor to get the color and font and which type of <data field> we want from the RSS.

Another Idea is make them a default jpeg. Let then use "paint" program to update. Let them update the image in the libary.

"RSS" and "Jpg" workarounds seem good but we're looking for a solution which is "internal" to XIBO. We're setting a display network in which every local publisher-user can modify just a single client.

It would be good to improve a way using the same XIBO user management system without other software or workflow involved.

For example, our customer will not be glad to make their publishers manage file or folders in the webserver.

I also encountered the same problem. I think it's a bug because in one case an error message is displayed and the other is allowed to modify the properties of the region

I have the same issue as Andrea, I have a text box in a layout that I want to grant an end user access to update. I am not concerned about the user making changes to the region via manual region positioning.

I had originally created the layout as the superadmin. (Not sure if that's an issue) But I've assigned view/edit permissions to the user at the layout, the region, as well as the timeline level, but I am still not able to edit the text, I get the "You do not have permission to access this page" error. I also tried to copy the layout as the user, so that it owns it, but get the same permissions error. I have also tried creating a group, then adding the users to that group. and assigning both view and edit permissions to both the group and the user, no dice.

Please let me know if I am doing something wrong or if this is an issue or by design.

I am running a fresh version of v1.4.2, no upgrades

Thanks,

David
