Xibo doesn't delete Layouts or Library items

Asked by Andreas Wojtaschek

First:

Great programm - I'm evaluating it right now but I'm already impressed.

My Problem:
I try to delete some old Layouts. But Xibo says that I can't delete them - the only option is to retire them (but they are already retired). How can I delete those Layouts?

2nd:
I deleted some items from my library. They don't appear in that library list anymore. But Xibo didn't delete the files on the server - only the database entrys. I can upload files via the webinterface without problems so owner rights shouldn't be an issue!?

Thanks for your support!

1. You need to remove all schedules relating to that layout before you can delete it. It also can't be the default layout for a display. There really isn't any need to delete a layout. Retiring it hides it from the list of layouts (unless you've changed the filter options to show retired layouts too?)

2. Again, if the media is in use on a layout then you won't be able to delete it - only retire it. The database entries, and the media stay, but the files are hidden from the default view.

Alex,

thank you for answering my question.

Unfortunately that didn't solve my problems because none of the layouts is scheduled anywhere. And yes - there is a need to delete the layouts because I want to delete some big video files on the server and the clients that are don't needed anymore. If I can't delete them I'm running into size restrictions someday.

As I said none of the layouts are scheduled but Xibo (1.2.2) keeps saying me that I can't delete them.

2. I removed all the media from the layouts to be able to delete the media. That worked. Xibo gave me the option to delete the media but all it did was to remove the database entrys. The files do still exist on the server an on the clients. As I said before I'm dealing with large video files (800MB+) that need to be exchanged on a monthly basis. If the system keeps all the deleted files I will run into the size restriction of my ISP.

Thanks for your support!

Can you try creating a layout and then immediately deleting it?

The XML for a layout is tiny (maybe 5kb) - the media is separate - so you won't run in to issues with space as a result of having retired layouts.

Deleting the media files definitely works here. Can you run through the report fault wizard please? At the point where it asks you to recreate the problem, upload a small image file, and then immediately delete it. Then email the resulting log file to <email address hidden> and I'll see if I can see anything.

I expect if it's a server at an ISP it'll be some kind of security software they're running that's preventing the server deleting files.

Alex,

I saw that it is still possible to access the thread.

Please ensure that the thread is deleted completely or that the server
path in it is removed within the next 24 hours.

If there are any attacks to my server that cause downtime or other
problems I will have to sue you.

Mit freundlichen Grüßen aus Leverkusen

As I explained to you, I don't have access to do that.

Launchpad staff have now removed the post. Threatening to sue was really unnecessary.

You are of course free to redact your logs before they leave your organisation.

I now consider this matter closed.

This is definitely fixed in 1.3.1 (development preview) as the code has been re-factored. 1.3 series should be going stable shortly, so 1.4 is your best bet for this.
