Client randomly changes to default layout

Asked by James C

Hi,

My setup is Xibo 1.2.2 running on WinXP for 7 clients, and Xibo 1.2.2 running on 1 Ubuntu server.
Hardware setup is the same for all 7 cleints.

My problem is that one of my clients will randomly change from its programmed layout to the default layout (the screen with the XIBO logo). It will also do this while playing the correct programmed layout, as in it will randomly stop playing the correct content not just going to default layout after the correct media has finished playing. I tried deleting all the files from the xibo library, and it will play fine for a few hours but then randomly change back to the default XIBO layout image. I noticed that after it changes to the default layout, it downloads some of the media files again. I have interleave turned OFF for all of my clients.

Any thougths on why this might be happening to only 1 client? I figured that deleting all of the files in the XIBO library would resolve the issue, but it doesn't seem to be helping.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, and I LOVE the software :)

Regards,
James

It will only change back to the splash screen if all layouts are invalid.

You say some media items are re-downloaded? Are they ones you've
changed on the server? Are they being modified by something else on
the computer? What types of file are they?

Alex,

What do you mean when you say 'if all layouts are invalid'? Since the
layout plays correctly on some clients, I assume its a valid layout. Is
that a correct assumption or am I missing something?

I haven't changed any of the media items, only the layout gets adjusted
about every other week. Add one media item, or remove one media item.
They are not being modified by anyone else but me, I'm the only one
administering the system.
The file types are .MP3. I added the .MP3 exension to allow the system to
play music, the video is never even seen by anyone - only the audio is
heard. Instead of a video server / client solution, its more like a
custom audio solution. I probably should have mentioned that earlier, but I
didn't see that as being a factor.

James

In this case, invalid means that the client doesn't have some of the
resources required to run the layout, or the layout isn't in a window
where it's scheduled to run.

Since upgrading to version 1.4.1 I have the same problem as described by the TS.
I have 2 Xibo Windows clients connected.
I have a schedule running 4 lay-outs every half hour. Then they're repeated. See below:
Lay-out 1 00:00 - 00:08
Lay-out 2 00:08 - 00:14
Lay-out 3 00:14 - 00:25
Lay-out 4 00:26 - 00:30
Lay-out 1 00:30 - 00:38
Lay-out 2 00:38 - 00:44
Lay-out 3 00:44 - 00:55
Lay-out 4 00:56 - 00:00

All displays have lay-out 1 as standard defined.

When (physically) looking at the clients at different times they don't play all lay-outs, when I restart the client then the schedule is resumed at the correct point.
The point where the client becomes out of sync looks random to me and has nothing to do with an specific lay-out.
All lay-outs and content are nicely downloaded to the client library when Xibo is started. I tried this also cleaning up the local client library several times.
With out of sync I mean it plays the standard lay-out at these times, not anothe scheduled lay-out.

I checked the exact times of schedule multiple times for typos.

I also read about campaignes in an other post but don't exactly see how I could use them instead of scheduling every single lay-out separately like I'm doing now.

I would like to get this problem fixed because not al content is now shown by the clients.

Unless you're using a campaign, Xibo does not guarantee the playback order
of the scheduled layouts. If you specify an order using a campaign then
that will be respected.

Can you help with this problem?
