rss-ticker: intervall time between the messages

Asked by ULB

Hi,
we’re using xibo since a few weeks and it works quite good. But we’ve one problem with the rss-ticker: After the ticker has shown all of the messages (means: the sequence of messages that are comprised in the ticker) there is an interval time for about one minute. The screen is blank. Then the ticker restarts to show the sequence of messages.

This interval time between the sequences is a little annoying. Is there a way to show the sequences non-stop?
(the interval time is not caused by the rss-feed; we checked that there is no blank programmed in the ticker)
Thank you for an answer!

How have you configured the feed? Scrolling I guess?

Xibo doesn't put any gap in, except one screen width as the ticker
reloads. (ie the end of the text has to scroll completely off the screen
and then the beginning of the feed will start scrolling on from the
right or bottom of the screen)

What is the feed you're using? It's almost always HTML markup in the
feed causing white space to be rendered.

Hi Alex,

thank you for your answer!

The feed is configured with the direction "single".

I don't mean the gap that appears when the ticker reloads. There is always a gap between the sequences of news.

Yes, it's a HTML feed we#re using:
http://www.ulb.uni-muenster.de/display.rss

But why does HTML causing white space between the sequences of news? Any idea how to change this?

thank you, Ariane

OK. Single mode makes a big difference as there's no scrolling
whitespace shouldn't be an issue.

If you switch the feed URL to http://xibo.org.uk/feed do you get the
same behaviour?

Which version of the server and client do you use?

Hi Alex,

sorry that it took some time to answer your message.

We use the version 1.20.

I tried to switch the feed URL to http://xibo.org.uk/feed, that you sended me. It doesn't work. The display doesn't show the feed. No idea, why.

Did you check out our feed URL http://www.ulb.uni-muenster.de/display.rss in Single mode? When you use it on your display, Is there no white space between the sequences of news?

Thank you, Ariane

In single mode, the only empty gap will be caused by the time it takes to download and parse the feed.

What cache time have you set on the feed?

Lieber Matthias,

so, nun läuft alles wieder :-)

Also bis gleich!
Ariane

P.S.: Ich gehe heute um kurz nach drei zu einem Physiotherapeuten-Termin. Habe dort keinen anderen Termin als zu meinen Arbeitszeiten bekommen können. Komme aber danach wieder und mache dann etwas länger.

Hi Alex,

we found a solution for the problem.

It seems that the gap was caused by different parameters for the "duration" for different regions. We had two regions in the layout: one with a webpage and one with a news ticker. For the region with the webpage we entered a longer "duration" than for the region with the feed.
When both regions operate with the same "duration", the gap disappearce.

Bye, Ariane

This is exactly the problem I experience.
I had one region with the RSS ticker in single mode displaying the title and description and in the bottom of the screen the same ticker in left scrolling mode only displaying the titles from the same feed. The main region using single mode shows a empty gap after displaying all the items in the feed.

Because of the difference in mode I use different durations. I am now testing without the scrolling ticker in the bottom.
We'll see if this fixes the problem. Is there a chance this will be fixed in feature releases?

I will keep you updated.

I forgot about a region in the left corner where I placed a clock with a different duration.
After adjusting this duration to the same as the main ticker the problem looks solved.

Now I'll go try to place the bottom ticker back with the same duration to see if this affects it's behaviour.
But this confirms Ariane's statement so thanks Ariane for sharing your solution with us.

I did take the time to test this before.

Can you help with this problem?
