PPT flashes when region is changeing and flash will not be shown

Asked by Bernd

Hi Xibo-Team,

we'r useing Win7 Home Premium with 1.0.7-client and Office 2007.

(1) Showing some web-pages, the embedded flash will not be shown (but it works with Vista and an older client)
On IE the flash will be shown.
(2) When displaying PPT at the end of the display-time the whole screen flashes (about 1 min). Then the system changes
to the next item to display (e.g. a web.page). (it works on Vista and an older client)

best regards

Bernd

P.S. I've not found some solutions at the faq and the bug report

OK.

The short answer is Flash doesn't work on 64-bit Windows. The long answer is that when the client uses COM to ask for an Internet Explorer instance to embed a webpage, 64-bit Windows serves a 64bit version of Internet Explorer and since Adobe haven't released a flash plugin for 64-bit Internet Explorer the flash content isn't displayed.

Officially we don't support a 64 bit OS on either client - mainly due to Flash.

Unofficially you can work around this. Instructions here: https://answers.launchpad.net/xibo/+question/114309

We've not tried this at all - and can't help you directly with it, but if all you have access to is a 64-bit OS it might dig you out of a hole.

Re. point 2. Can you give some more details please? From reading the description it looks like you're saying that when you run a PowerPoint item you get 1 minute of flashing at the end of the presentation? Flashing what? What exactly is shown on the screen? Try setting a background colour on the layout - then you can see if it's the background of the layout you're seeing.

Generally I tend to put a final blank slide on my PowerPoint presentations so that if there is any timing error between PowerPoint and the client (as there can be as they're running in the same thread) then a blank screen (ie the final slide) is shown while the client catches up.

Tnx for the first help. I'll try to solve the problem done by Dustin Drewery (shown at https://answers.launchpad.net/xibo/+question/114309 )

Re. point 2.
The problem seem to be at the _end_ of _region-time_ not at the end of displaying PPT. At the end of region-time the Xibo-client start PPT (I can see only the beginning of PPT), stop it, show black page an start again PPT. This happens all the time in the last minute.

By the way Xibo is a great tool. We love it. Perhaps the best solution would be downgrading to Win XP.

Best regards

Bernd

All the Windows client dev is done on Windows 7 so there's no reason that it shouldn't work just as well there.

I've never seen that behaviour with PowerPoint files. And you say the same file works fine on Windows XP with Office 2007? It's definitely the full version of PowerPoint, not just Viewer you have installed?

tnx for reply.

Our other Xibo-Systems are Vista Home Premium 32bit. But we only have old XP-pro licenses and no Vista-32bit or Win7-32-bit. Hardware is Acer Revo R3610 with preinstalled Win7-64bit.
Office 2007 pro is installed.

Next step we'll do:
- Testing presentation with Vista-Xibo-Client
- Testing other PPT with Win7-64bit-System

It will last till thursday.

regards

Bernd

Hi Alex,

point 1 is solved:
The flashing of PPT depended on the presentation.
We used an other PPT to test the Xibo-Client (WIN7 64bit) and everything works fine.

The next step is to run the embedded flash. I think this will last till friday.

Tnx again for your help.

Regards

Bernd
