Problem on Schedule

Asked by Jonathan Chan

Hi,

I'm using server 1.0.6 & client 1.0.7, seem the client doesn't follows the schedule setting. It just always shows the "Default Layout" of the Display setting. I've set the Interleave to "Yes", and the collection interval to 60sec. Any setting I've missed? Thanks a lot!

Regards,
Jonathan.

Is this a different client to the one you were saying was unresponsive yesterday? Is that issue now resolved?

If the client isn't updating properly then it's very unlikely to follow the schedule.

There's some information on how the scheduling works in the manual: http://wiki.xibo.org.uk/wiki/Manual:Scheduling#Scheduling

It's important to understand that Xibo doesn't support very short schedules very well - it's intended to be run by scheduling all the layouts you want to run at the same time together and allowing the client to show them in turn - not scheduling precisely one item at any given time.

Hi Alex,

The problem of yesterday is solve since I reinstall the server again. You said Xibo doesn't support short schedule very well, what is the proper timeframe I can used to test? Thanks a lot!

Jonathan.

This is broadly explained in the manual I linked, but I'll explain it again...

The client can only ask the server "what should I be playing now?". At the moment it has no concept of a future list of layouts to play.

So at time 0, the client asks the server "what should I be playing now" and gets given a list of the layouts currently scheduled. 60 seconds then elapse and the server will then be asked again. If the current time has now gone in to a different schedule then the answer the client gets will change and it will begin playing the next layout.

With an update interval of 60 seconds, it's only reasonable to schedule things for 2 minutes at the very least - and even then you might only expect to actually see the layout for 50 seconds or so. But that's not how Xibo is designed to be used.

What we intend is that you have 5 or 6 layouts, schedule them all for an hour or so and then the client will automatically interleave them.

Turning on interleaving on the display record adds the default layout in to that rotation permanently.

Hi Alex,

Let me briefly explain my sample. I have 3 regions for the layout, one region displays a movie which around 3 mins, and the other regions are text and news feed, I've set both of them to 1 sec duration since I don't know how long will be set on the schedule. And for that case, I've set the duration of showing that layout for 5 mins in schedule. I have few questions on that case.

1. How can I make the movie keep looping
2. How long should I set for the text and news feed if I don't know how long will it be displayed
3. After 5 mins, the client can't jump to the default layout even I've checked the "Priority" checkbox

Thanks a lot!

Regards,
Jonathan.

The default layout is the layout you assign to the display in display
management.

If you make a priority schedule that will override all other content
regardless of the interleave setting.

Your thinking about all this backwards. The region durations control how
long content is on the display - not the schedule. All the schedule does
is select which content to display and when.

Videos do not automatically loop. You can add a short empty text item to
that region timeline to give that effect but once you sort out the rest if
your scheduling and understand how the system is designed to be used then
I think you'll find it unnecessary.
