RSS Feed Issue

Asked by Chris

I apologize a head of time if this is answered somewhere else or if I'm just an idiot and not seeing something obvious but I cant for the life of me get an RSS feed to work. I have gone through all of the launchpad questions listed for xibo pretaining to RSS and no luck.

I'm running on a vista box with up to date software. I installed everything to the T according to the manual. Not sure why I'm failing with the RSS stuff here. I turned on error logging and it gave me a bunch of nusoap errors, but according to some other posts thats normal... Any RSS feed I tried will work but if someone could give me a layout and an RSS feed that for sure works so I can test it that would work, or at least something to try and test with. The default settings on everything with an RSS feed suggested as working by one of the moderators in here still didn't work.

Tried multiple feeds, made sure background color didnt match txt. used default layout. after duration for RSS feed layout will continue on to next item(video, txt, etc.)

Suggetions?

Hi Chris,

What have you got on your layout? You don't say what version of the server and client you are running. Presumably 1.06?

I use Xibo on a number of displays, and these all use RSS feeds.

For testing I would suggest deleting all regions on your layout, setting your background colour to white, and then add a single region containing an RSS feed. The feed I use is the BBC UK news:

http://newsrss.bbc.co.uk/rss/newsonline_uk_edition/uk/rss.xml

I wonder whether your current layout has overlapping regions, and these are not handled well by the Windows client.

You say that the RSS feed displays as normal using your web browser?

Any update Chris?

http://dl.dropbox.com/u/353651/XiboClient-1.0.7-test.zip

You can try the 1.0.7 test client and see if that helps. Extract the contents of the zip in to your Xibo client install folder overwriting the files you already have.

You'll still need to upgrade to 1.0.7 when it's released as this is not a final version.

Sorry about the delayed issue. I wasn't able to get back to test the system until this morning. Proxy server fixed the issue. It's always the simple stuff... It all seems to be working now, I just have to figure out how to get the RSS to display all the information correctly.
