you're running windoze 7. EEEEK!

how did you "mount" the .iso file in windoze? i don't think you can do that with windoze.

anyhoo, you have to burn the .iso file to a cd or flash drive. you'd use something like nero or cd creator by using "copy disk image" to copy to a cd, or go to pendrivelinux and download the software to copy the .iso to a flash drive.

then you have to boot off the cd or flash drive.

If you are trying to install Ubuntu with Wubi, then you certainly can do it by mounting the .iso in Windows[1] and running the installer from it. Otherwise, to try or install Ubuntu, you must write it to a physical USB flash drive or burn it to a physical CD/DVD (or writable BluRay, I suppose) and boot your computer from that.

Which method do you want to use? Or do you need help deciding?

Booting from an Ubuntu USB/CD/DVD and installing alongside Windows is preferable to installing via Wubi for most people most of the time. A Wubi system does not require modifying your partition table or resizing partitions, does not modify your master boot record, and is more easily uninstalled, but it is subject to size limitations, does not perform quite as well, and is more difficult to troubleshoot and fix (or at least there are fewer people who know how) if you have boot or disk problems.

[1] Daemon Tools and Virtual CloneDrive are two utilities for mounting disk images as virtual drives in Windows. There are several others, as a web search will reveal.

If you are having trouble opening up the mounted image, then please tell us:

(1) Did you check the .iso file's MD5SUM? See https://help.ubuntu.com/community/HowToMD5SUM.

(2) What disk image mounting utility are you using, what version are you using, and precisely what steps are you following to mount the image?

Actually, before providing the information I've requested, I recommend reading the description in https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/365881 and see if either of the workarounds written there are effective. (Thanks bcbc!)

Yes i am trouble having opening the mounted image...

(1) i have no idea what your talking about, i read that link and am lost to as far as what to do.. i just want to install and try this software. why does it have to be so difficult?

(2)Deamon tools lite, and DLing ubuntu off the site, put it on a flash drive, and mounted it from there. and then it doesnt work.

Then i unmounted. turned off the computer and put the .iso file on the desktop. and tried to remount and then same thing happened....

Apperently some people can just get away with putting another real disk in, along side with the mounted image. while others have to do something with their video card.. what do i have to do with my video card. and to be honest with you, i dont really know what a video card is, nor do i even know where its at.

..............................................................................................................................................................................................................
Then i saw this:

'Disable all your USB drives, your unused optical drives (with no ubuntu CD), and any virtual drive or cardreader. After that wubi should work'

how do you disable your USB drives?

..............................................................................................................................................................................................................
and what about this? seem like it would work?

If you have decided not to use Ubuntu and no longer want help with this problem, go ahead and mark this as Solved. You do not have to identify any particular answer as solving your problem (i.e., you can click Problem Solved at https://answers.launchpad.net/wubi/+question/173791 rather than clicking "This Solved My Problem" next to any answer). This will make it clear that you are not still looking for a solution.

If at any point in the future you want to try again, please feel free to reopen this question.
