I suggest you resize the NTFS and you can then install a true install. This will make it not get affected by the shortcomings of NTFS (mainly fragmentation which Linux doesn't suffer from). It will give you a better experience as well as being easier to fix if you get issues.

Thanks for the quick response. I don't understand your answer. All my drives are NTFS. I guess the question is really - will there be problems installing a 64 bit OS with a 32 bit OS. Since UBUNTU will be under Win XP.

you might also want to update to grub loader2. if not already installed. if it is then you might want to update it.

"will there be problems installing a 64 bit OS with a 32 bit OS" No, there will be no issues. If Ubuntu virtual disk is inside NTFS partition, Wubi will install a multi-boot, so you will boot either Windows or Ubuntu, and not both.
I'm not sure using Wubi is a good choice as, from my point of view, you will have both issues of Window about NTFS fragmentation, and complexity of dual boot.
I will link question to Wubi to allow Mr bcbc to answer you. It's the Wubi expert in this forum.
And a detail, when you post, don't include previous message. It makes Web interface of forum less readable.

Thank you, that's basically what I was trying to find out. I guess I will install the UBUNTU 11.04 32 bit to keep everything compatible, and hopefully have a good duel boot system.

Yes as Delance stated, you can run 64 bit Ubuntu (whether using Wubi or a direct install, Ubuntu boots completely separately from Windows).

I agree with other posters though - if you have a dedicated partition ( D: ) then you might as well do a proper dual boot. Wubi is good to try out Ubuntu: it doesn't require partitioning and it doesn't require a separate drive or partition to try out. It is more reliable for long term use to install direct.

thanks for all your help & advice. i do plan to install 11.04 64 bit on it's own hard drive (D:) & see what happens. I like the idea of a duel boot situation - fo now anyway. If it doesn't go well. I'll let you know.
