Whyteboard doesn't start: "No module named embeddedimage"

Asked by mattruffoni

I've tried to start from terminal:

matteo@amd5600ub386:~$ whyteboard
Traceback (most recent call last):
  File "/usr/bin/whyteboard", line 41, in <module>
    import lib.flatnotebook as fnb
  File "/usr/lib/whyteboard/lib/flatnotebook.py", line 692, in <module>
    from wx.lib.embeddedimage import PyEmbeddedImage
ImportError: No module named embeddedimage
matteo@amd5600ub386:~$

Perhaps the solution is very simple but I'm not able to find it.
Thanks in advance.
ciao Matteo

Hi,

http://old.nabble.com/ImportError:-No-module-named-embeddedimage-or-No-module-named-inspection-td18959056.html

You are using an older version of wxPython, it is recommended to use the latest version of wx (I tend to use many of its newest features)

http://www.wxpython.org/download.php

Hope this helps,
Steven

Hmm. The latest wxPython most definitely has the embededimage module, so I can't really think why it's still not working. Perhaps you have many wxPython installs (and whyteboard is choosing to use an older one)?

Steven to write:

Exactly that is also my assumption and you has reports it would be the same error message as with first time. Therefore I ask you nevertheless times to remove the files however only those indicated by me. To try naturally also the program Whyteboard and it then with the installation of the new wx-environment. Of me the indicated left helped me with the installation and it functioned also.

For the next version, I have added a check for a minimum wx version of 2.8.9 (which has embeddedimage) - if it's less, the application will not load and instead displays an error message about needing to upgrade, and opens a link to the wxpython download page.

OK OK

I've solved by removing (purging?) python-wxgtk2.6 which, I suppose, are invoked from Whyteboard. So I heve installed only the python-wxgtk2.8 and whyteboard now work.
