Can Variety display from only a single folder, but auto download to multiple folders?

Asked by Burrell G

I love the autodownload feature of Variety, but want to perform some post download processing on the images it collects.

I am sourcing high resolution images from a few subreddits, and then using imagemagik to resize and or crop them as needed for my desktop space (3360x1050).

I would like to only let variety display images from the cropped output folder, but dont want to stop the autodownload process from collecting new source materials.

Is this possible or is any download enabled image source always used as a display source? Can this be a feature in future release?Display Vs Download enabled checkbox?

Any enabled download source is used as a display source, this will almost certainly remain so, as I don't want people using Variety as a pure leeching service, and also because this is a way-too-specific feature.

But you can achieve what you want by doing all the cropping tasks as a preliminary step in the set_wallpaper script that you can edit: ~/.config/variety/scripts/set_wallpaper, or by using a custom ImageMagick filter (achieved by editing the config file ~/.config/variety/variety.conf, [filters] section).
