Issues with large picture folders?

Asked by Mark Humphrey

Hello Peter and all, Many thanks for providing the community with, in my opinion, the best sturdiest, does-what-it-says-on-the-tin desktop image revolving thingy around. I do absolutely love it.

I am running Ubuntu 14.04 running Variety 0.4.20 changing picture every 15 seconds (yeah I know but.. thats me)

My question is...is there an upper limit to the amount of pictures in a folder that Variety can cope with? I have a picture folder containing some 5601 images but I notice at random times, approximately once every two or three minutes, that instead of a picture being displayed, a stock desktop background is displayed instead of a picture from the , which is ok but kind of dull. And there lies the reason for my question. Does Variety have an issue with coping with folders containing a large number of pictures?

many thanks

Mark

In theory, no, there is no upper limit, it should cope just fine up until much larger folders than 5601 images. In practice, you might be hitting some bug or edge case.

But it sounds like you have the folder with the default wallpapers still enabled in Variety's Image sources - disable it and you won't be seeing stock images anymore.

Peter,

Many thanks for your suggestions on how to fix my issue. It certainly
seems to have worked and I no longer get standard Ubuntu desktop pictures
appearing.

Many thanks

Mark
