did not understand instructions for kde install-SOLVED

Asked by dduran1210

author said for KDE installations, have to "manually configure Variety" but not sure what or how to configure.
I added the wallpaper-kde.jpg in the "view source" module and clicked on "set". Is that what I am supposed to do?
Nothing happened and my wallpaper folder is located in pictures, but no changes have occurred, except I think
it is Downloading pics from flicker?

this is KUBUNTU 12.10 VARIETY 0.4.1.3

Can someone elaborate on KDE installs??
thanks

Manually set ~/.config/variety/wallpaper-kde.jpg as your desktop wallpaper and keep it this way. Then Variety will work. This is all you have to do manually.

thank you for responding. I DID set the wallpaper manually and have the preferences pointing at the wallpaper in
the /.config/variety folder. i tried the 'use" button as well with only that image selected, and it still doesn't show up
as wallpaper, nor do any of my other images. I set the wallpaper to change at one minute, 5 minutes, 10 minutes and
nothing happens.

i rightclick on the taskbar icon, and see the "wallpaper-kde.jpg" at the top of the menu.
in Preferences , the line...image /home/dave/.config/variety/wallpaper-kde.jpg is checked,
as well as my pictures folder. and I DO see the small insert photo of the wallpaper-kde.jpg, but that is all i get.

any idea on what the problem is? should i uninstall and re-install again??

thanks
DD

Let's first start clean - please delete or rename the folder /home/dave/.config/variety and start Variety again. You should see the Welcome dialog with the red warning for KDE and instructions.

Then, without closing this dialog, please open your KDE desktop wallpaper settings and change your desktop wallpaper to /home/dave/.config/variety/wallpaper-kde.jpg. This should happen OUTSIDE of Variety, in KDE's settings - do not touch Variety's preferences for now at all. Make sure on your desktop you see the green/black wallpaper. After this, in Variety's menu press Next - your wallpaper should now change and everything should work.

If you followed these instructions, and you still cannot make it work, it may be a bug, or some specific problem with how your machine is setup.

MR LEVI....
It WORKS !! and looks terrific !!
Thank you very much !

I really do not know why it wouldn't work before, but all is well
now and very much appreciative of the work you
put into this program.

Thank you again
Dave

Thanks Peter Levi, that solved my question.
