Mac port

Asked by Erlendoos

Hi,

Has anyone ever tried to compile unetbootin for mac? Mac OS seems to not have a tool that comes even close, but I am not familiar with building qt4 apps on mac. I allways relied on ./configure && make ;-)
Thanks!

Grtz,
Erlend

It's not quite as simple as a recompile, as among other things, syslinux doesn't run on Mac OS X. Steven Downum began working on a mac release some time ago, though I'm not sure if he's made much progress since then; I refer you to https://answers.launchpad.net/unetbootin/+question/121339 and https://github.com/sdownum/unetbootin-osx/wiki/Building-UNetbootin-under-Mac-OS-X

If you are trying to create a USB drive that can run Mac OS X, then it should be possible according to this article: http://lifehacker.com/5739259/how-to-create-a-portable-hackintosh-on-a-usb-thumb-drive . Note that the iPortable Snow used in that particular solution is a hackintosh distribution that is not supported by Apple, so check the legality of using it in your jurisdiction. If there is sufficient interest and it is legal to do so, it may be possible to use a similar approach to find a substitute for syslinux on Mac.
