unetbootin release mac osx

No, it's not possible to run Linux binaries on Mac OS X; the fact that it is based on BSD only helps at the source-code compatibility level. Unfortunately, even if you install the Qt SDK and compile UNetbootin from source on Mac OS X it unfortunately won't function correctly, as Mac OS X uses a different bootloader from Linux. As I don't have a Mac to test on, that means there won't be a release for Mac OS X (unless someone with a Mac writes the code for the bootloader modifications and does the testing for me, or a shiny new Mac shows up on my doorstep one day).

I am willing to volunteer to work on the Mac OS X bootloader issues. I've started to poke around there anyways. I just wanted to make certain I wasn't duplicating any effort before I go further. Also, as much as I would like to see UNetbootin work on OS X, I wasn't sure how helpful it would be to others.

I have UNetbootin building and running on Snow Leopard. There are many things to fix besides the bootloader. and I can start addressing them one by one. Is there any preference on how and when to submit patches for this?

I've just made a version of UNetbootin for Mac OSX (had to port over syslinux to do so; it still needs some testing, though); see http://unetbootin.sourceforge.net/unetbootin-mac-latest.zip for the current version.

Ignore that announcement for now, the initial version had a Qt deployment-related issue. Will fix and upload a new version soon.
