Can't install unetbootin on eee PC 701 linux

Asked by Gabe Cherry

I have an eee PC 701 with Linux that still has the OS it came with. It's slowly becoming useless because there is no way to update the software on it, so I am trying to install ubuntu on it by creating a bootable USB with unetbootin.

However, I can't get unetbootin to install. I tried to follow the instructions on the unetbootin site to make it executable, but the permissions window does not come up the way it is described on the site.

I am in full desktop mode on my eee pc. Right now I have the unetbootin blue gear icon on the desktop. When I double-click on it, nothing happens. Any idea where to go from here?

I presume you try to install Unetbootin in Windows.
Do you have administration right ?
Could you provide me the link to unetbootin site ?
I used another software, on Ubuntu, to build USB key, and so I'm not used on Unetbootin on Windows.

It seems you simply have to download an executable file.
Unetbootin is not in a packet but made of a single file.
Run command:
   chmod +x ./unetbootin-linux
to make file runnable. And then type:
   ./unetbootin-linux
http://sourceforge.net/projects/unetbootin/files/UNetbootin/494/unetbootin-linux-494/download

Can you help with this problem?
