The launcher bar in Unity resets to default, every time I reboot

Asked by Brian Smith

I've been using the 'vanilla' version of Natty since it was released. Today, I decided to re-format with Ubuntu Studio. I'm comfortable with the Unity desktop, so I installed it on Studio. When I load my most frequently used programs into the launcher (right-click the icon and check the 'keep in launcher' box), they stay put. However, the launcher resets back to default with a re-boot.

Home
LibreOffice Writer
LibreOffice Calc
LibreOffice Impress
Ubuntu Software Center
Ubuntu One
Workspace Switcher
Applications
Files and Folders

I have no use for most of these, and have many programs that I'd prefer to put there. Could someone please tell me how to get my preferred items to replace the defaults on the Unity launcher, in Ubuntu Studio?

Nevermind.

I think I'll just go back to the typical Natty release and get the Studio packages from the repository.

Hi Brian,

We did not test Ubuntu Studio against Unity as we have strictly avoided Unity as a design/usability consideration.

If you are adamant about using Unity, then I think starting with the Natty Desktop release and installing the studio applications is the best course of action. However, to get the best performance from JACK (and to help reduce xruns and latency) be sure to select "enable realtime privileges" to JACK when installing JACK and add yourself to the audio group.

Really? Ubuntu Studio has chosen to totally avoid the Unity desktop?

I find that to be a bit strange...since I just installed Studio 11.04
and upgraded to 11.10. The default desktop environment is Unity, in case
you didn't know.

Dude, I posted this launchpad request at the beginning of September.
Since then, my Linux flavour of choice has been Mint. I liked the Unity
desktop with Natty, but the Oneiric version seems to be a bit more
constrictive. Two months after I made this support request, you send me
this message that so 'adamantly' explains that Studio has strictly
avoided Unity...so I installed it again. I'm glad I chose to add a
second HDD to my PC for Studio. At least my Mint install is still intact.
