new to ubuntu one, synching folders, not files.

Asked by Byron Wayne Kruse

I just paid for Ubuntu One last night, without trying it first. I did everything as instructed and was successfully signed in. I am using Ubuntu 10.04 btw. I added my machine in the Devices tab like I was supposed to. I then right clicked a few folders in my home directory and selected "Synchronize on Ubuntu One". My whole system slowed down to a crawl. And nothing really happened. When I went into the web portion of Ubuntu One it showed I was taking 0MB of my 50 allotted. But it shows my folders and subfolders, just NO FILES. This is very frustrating to me. Its not like I am trying something weird.

more info: I tried to restart my device, but it is still not working.

Seems the documentation is also out of date. I just installed 10.04 Ubuntu and got the updates.

Everything about this whole process is frustrating. I just have folders and no files. I tried to select Stop Synchroning Ubuntu One, but the folders are still there. The documentation says I can click on the More and select delete folder, but the only option is share. And this is on a folder with nothing in it. Jeez I did not want to pay 10$ to spend 40 hours to get something simple to work.

it gets worse and worse. If I reboot my computer the system is at a complete crawl forever. I selected Stop synchroning but that does not work, but the system still is trying to synchronize and is dog slow.

THIS PRODUCT IS NOT READY FOR BETA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

sorry for my temper but this may be one of the worst experiences I have ever had. I mean until I kill the ubuntu one synch process, my computer is so slow it totally unusable. Noting about ubuntu one has worked so far. All I wanted to do is back up 4 folders. Nothing fancy. I wish there was a call in number. I am going to have to leave before I get a heart attack trying to get something about ubuntu one to work.

We're sorry your having difficulty with Ubuntu One. Currently we are experiencing some performance problems which is
likely effecting you as well. Hopefully the following will help make things go a bit smoother.

If you add a lot of files to Ubuntu One at once there is an issue in that your computer needs to generate metadata for
all of these files before it starts uploading them to ubuntuone. If you shutdown Ubuntu One or restart, the process
starts all over again. The process is unfortunately processor intensive as well.

The second step takes some time for many as upload speeds are not as good as download speeds. It is also hindered by the
performance issues we are experiencing. So this can take some time as well.

*So the key here is* allow Ubuntu One to finish this initial process without interruption. While I know this is
suboptimal, please know that we are working on these issues as fast as possible. I am currently uploading 50GB to ubuntu
one at about 6 GB per day.

Again, we apologize for the experience you are having.

Thanks for the reply John, I did try to add it all at once.
