will not load on desktop.

Asked by gwelker

the cd's (ubuntu and kubuntu) go through the motions of loading. When it is done it states the program is installed. To remove the cd and restart ther computer. When I restart the computer neither program is shown. It acts like it needs to run from the live cd.
I am using win 2000 pro. 3 sata HD, 2gig of ram and a AMD cpu 3800.
I would like to be able to get it to install on the machine

thank you

What does exactly mean that "neither program is shown"?
I mean after installation and reboot what happens?
Windows comes in / nothing happens / an error message is diplayed / whatever... :-)

Is it Ubuntu Dapper or Edgy, by the way?

Ok, I guess you mean Operating System when you say 'program', right?

When you boot from the Live CD and start installing Ubuntu, everything works without any problems, correct? However, when you restart your computer you don't have a option of booting into Ubuntu. The computer just loads Microsoft Windows XP.

Is this what you mean?

That is correct. When I reboot Ubuntu is not listed as option. Also
when I search the Hard drives Ubuntu is not on them. So for some reason
it seems that it is not being installed on the computer. I have the
book and have followed the instructions as to intsallation.( on page 36
and 37) any ideas. I have also tried to install Kubuntu with the same
results.

thank you

You reboot the computer with the disk in the drive. You should see a menu like the first picture on https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Installation/CDIntegrityCheck

If you reboot your computer and do not get this menu, then you should check out https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BootFromCD

Can you help with this problem?
